Decide whether full suspension fits your route

The Obsidian ST 2.0 is described as full suspension; the Basalt ST 2.0 is a step-through fat-tire format. If uneven routes are central to your use, explore the Obsidian’s suspension setup and adjustment requirements with the retailer. A specification comparison cannot measure comfort, handling or suspension performance, and this guide has not ridden either bike.

Do not compare differently labelled watt figures as equals

Basalt ST 2.0 lists 750 W continuous power. Obsidian ST 2.0 separately lists 750 W rated, 1,000 W continuous and 1,300 W peak. Our headline Obsidian figure is explicitly labelled rated. Peak output is not the same measurement as continuous or rated output. Confirm the applicable operating configuration and local riding rules rather than deciding on a single watt figure.

The same battery and tire figures do not promise the same ride

Both list 48V 19.6Ah and 26 × 4.0-inch tires. Both advertise up to 80 miles. Their frames, suspension and total load can affect real-world use, and manufacturer maximum range is not an independent head-to-head test. Check your route, assistance setting, carrying needs and a sensible charging margin.

Separate payload, bike weight and rider fit

Published payload is 450 lb for Basalt ST 2.0 and 560 lb for Obsidian ST 2.0. Published bike weights are 80 lb and 77 lb respectively. A higher payload is not proof of a better fit or a reason to exceed component limits. Ask Mokwheel how rider, cargo, racks and accessories interact with the current model’s limits.
