Asphalt ST vs Slate: commuting or folding?

Both publish 500 W continuous motor power and a claimed maximum range of 60 miles. The useful difference is how they fit into your day: the Asphalt ST is a full-size step-through commuter, while the Slate adds a folding frame.

Start with storage, then your route

If the bike needs to share a small apartment or storage area, start with the Slate. Its step-through folding frame is the clearest distinction between these two. Before choosing it, check the actual folded dimensions, lifting points and weight with Mokwheel. Folding does not automatically mean easy to carry upstairs.

Compare the wheel and tire format

The Asphalt ST publishes 27.5 × 2.4-inch tires. The Slate publishes 20 × 3.0-inch tires. Those formats differ in wheel diameter and tire width; the specifications alone do not establish which feels more comfortable or stable for you. A test ride, rider fit and your intended surface are more useful than treating either dimension as a universal advantage.

Read battery and range figures separately

The Asphalt ST lists a 48V 14.7Ah battery; the Slate lists 48V 15Ah (720Wh). Both state up to 60 miles. That is a manufacturer maximum, not a promise for a daily route. Cargo, rider weight, assistance, temperature and hills can change the result. Plan with a practical reserve rather than the headline maximum.

Check lifting weight and fit before purchase

Mokwheel publishes 63 lb for the Asphalt ST. Published Slate weights conflict, so this guide asks you to confirm the current variant directly with the retailer. Payload figures are not the bike’s own weight: they are separately published capacity limits. Confirm how rider and cargo count toward the limit for your selected model.

A useful shortlist

Start with Asphalt ST when you want a full-size step-through commuter and folding is not a requirement. Start with Slate when its folding format solves a specific storage problem. Neither recommendation substitutes for sizing, current model details or a test ride. Check current pricing on the exact official listing, then compare that offer with your total budget.
